01 · Raw materials

Minerals Used in Wall Putty Formulations

Different formulations use different mineral ingredients. The materials below are examples of powders that may be considered; they are not interchangeable, and the correct choice must be established for the target formulation.

Calcium carbonate and limestone raw material

Calcium Carbonate / Limestone

Common mineral filler options. Grinding targets should be set from the required product grade and particle-size distribution.

Process focus: feed size, fineness, whiteness, moisture and consistency.

Dolomite mineral for powder processing

Dolomite

May be used in selected mineral powder formulations where its composition and product characteristics are appropriate.

Process focus: mineral composition, grindability and required powder specification.

Talc and kaolin mineral powders

Talc and Kaolin

Specialty mineral ingredients considered for specific formulation requirements. Their particle characteristics and processing behavior differ from carbonate minerals.

Process focus: material properties, particle characteristics and any specified thermal treatment.

02 · Product specification

Define the Powder Before Selecting the Mill

A useful equipment selection begins with a clear product target. Mesh alone may not describe the full particle-size distribution or the quality requirements.

  • Particle sizeTarget fineness and distribution, including any coarse-particle limit.
  • Material compositionMineral grade, impurities and relevant quality limits.
  • Color / whitenessAcceptable appearance and contamination control requirements.
  • MoistureIncoming moisture and whether a separate drying stage is necessary.
  • CapacityRequired hourly output at the specified product quality.
  • ConsistencyRaw material variation and how product quality will be checked.

03 · Process route

From Mineral Feed to Finished Powder

A typical mineral grinding circuit may include the following stages. The actual layout is determined by feed size, moisture, mineral properties, target fineness and capacity.

STAGE 01

Feed Preparation

Check raw material condition and remove unsuitable material as required.

STAGE 02

Crushing, if Needed

Reduce oversized feed to a size accepted by the selected mill.

STAGE 03

Controlled Feeding

Provide a stable feed to the grinding system.

STAGE 04

Grinding

Reduce the mineral to the specified particle size.

STAGE 05

Classification

Separate product by size where the circuit requires it.

STAGE 06

Collection & Transfer

Collect powder and transfer it to storage or packing.

Process boundary: Drying, beneficiation, calcination, gypsum dehydration and lime slaking are distinct, material-specific operations. They are included only when the raw material and product specification call for them—not as automatic stages in a standard grinding line.

Mill Families for Mineral Powder Production

Liming Heavy Industry offers several grinding mill families. The appropriate model depends on feed conditions, material properties, required fineness, capacity and plant arrangement; the descriptions below are selection starting points, not a final equipment recommendation.

MTW Type Grinding Mill

Conventional fine grinding

MTW Type Grinding Mill

Evaluate for suitable conventional mineral powder duties when the feed and product requirements fit the mill configuration.

  • Confirm feed size and moisture.
  • Specify throughput and product distribution.
  • Review system auxiliaries and wear considerations.
LM Vertical Grinding Mill

Vertical grinding system

LM Vertical Grinding Mill

Assess for mineral grinding applications where capacity, layout and product requirements suit a vertical mill system.

  • Check grindability and feed characteristics.
  • Confirm capacity and fineness target.
  • Assess drying needs and auxiliary equipment.
LUM Ultrafine Vertical Mill

Ultrafine powder

LUM Ultrafine Vertical Mill

Consider when the required powder is ultrafine and the mineral is suitable for this grinding approach.

  • Define fineness and output rate.
  • Review material characteristics and classification.
MW Micro Powder Mill

Micro powder processing

MW Micro Powder Mill

Evaluate for appropriate micro-powder duties after confirming the target particle size and capacity.

  • Specify particle-size distribution.
  • Check abrasiveness and feed condition.
R Raymond Mill

Conventional powder grinding

R Raymond Mill

A mill family to consider for compatible conventional powder applications following a review of feed and product data.

  • Confirm feed size and fineness.
  • Review throughput and site conditions.
Ball mill mineral grinding system

Grinding circuit option

Ball Mill

May be evaluated for mineral grinding circuits where the process and product specification suit ball-mill technology.

  • Assess material and circuit design.
  • Define product size and plant capacity.

06 · Plant integration

A Grinding Line Includes More Than the Mill

Stable operation also depends on the feeding, collection, transfer and control systems around the mill. Their configuration should match the project layout and operating requirements.

  • Feeding and conveying
  • Classification
  • Dust collection
  • Powder storage
  • Product transfer
  • Electrical control

07 · FAQ

Wall Putty Mineral Powder Processing: FAQs

Which minerals are used in wall putty powder?

Formulations vary. Calcium carbonate and other mineral fillers may be used, while dolomite, talc, kaolin or other minerals may be relevant to particular formulations. They are not interchangeable; confirm the formulation and material specification.

How do I choose a grinding mill?

Provide the mineral name and grade, feed size, moisture if known, target fineness or particle-size distribution, required capacity and project location. These data help determine which mill configurations should be evaluated.

Does every raw material need crushing before grinding?

No. Crushing is needed only when the incoming material is too large for the selected mill. The required feed size depends on the mill model and process configuration.

Is drying included in a mineral grinding line?

Not automatically. Drying depends on incoming moisture, the material and the required operating conditions. If needed, it should be specified as a separate process stage.

Are grinding and calcination the same process?

No. Grinding reduces particle size. Calcination or other thermal treatment changes a material through controlled heating and requires suitable thermal equipment when the product specification calls for it.

Can one mill process all minerals used in wall putty?

Not necessarily. Mineral hardness, abrasiveness, moisture, particle structure and target product properties differ. Equipment and process settings must be reviewed for the specific material.

What project information should I prepare?

Share the material and grade, feed size, moisture if available, target fineness, hourly capacity, project country and whether the project is a new plant or an upgrade. A representative material analysis can help where properties are uncertain.
